Dubai South, formerly known as Dubai World Central, is an integrated microcity that is currently being developed by the Government of Dubai – based on the inspired vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of the emirate. It is a free-zone area covering almost 145 square kilometers, which is double the size of Hong Kong Island. This master-planned city has different sub-areas dedicated for commercial and residential purposes. Dubai South is estimated to be able to sustain a population of one million people. The residential district lies within close proximity to several commercial areas of Dubai and is set next to the site of the World Expo 2020.
