Dubai South, formerly known as Dubai World Central, is an integrated microcity that is currently being developed by the Government of Dubai – based on the inspired vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of the emirate. It is a free-zone area covering almost 145 square kilometers, which is double the size of Hong Kong Island. This master-planned city has different sub-areas dedicated for commercial and residential purposes. It offers world-class community living within an urban environment and is designed to be an economic zone to support aviation, logistics, exhibition, commercial, humanitarian, and residential business around Al Maktoum International Airport.
Dubai South is estimated to be able to sustain a population of one million people. The residential district lies within close proximity to several commercial areas of Dubai and is set next to the site of the World Expo 2020. Dubai South aspires to be ‘The Centre of Tomorrow,’ with a vision to create a city of happy, creative and empowered people that coexist in an inclusive society. Upon its completion, Dubai South will house mega malls. As for now, the closest malls to the area are Dubai Marina Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall, the Outlet Village by Meraas, Mall of the Emirates, and Dubai Mall. There will also be numerous restaurants, including international food chains.

Several schools, clinics, hospitals, and supermarkets are operational right now, but the number will increase when the residential area is fully developed.
